Novembers, Sales, Futures
To those who celebrate, I hope you had the Thanksgiving you hoped for. For myself, I believe that good food in good company is one of the great pleasures, and respites, in life.

Today’s end-of-November newsletter is a shoutout for Small Business Saturday, the sequel to Black Friday. For small businesses, extra sales make an outsize difference.
Patrick, the publisher of Fairwood Press, has a sale at his site from now until December 15, 2024.
He has so many great books available, and as a small press, can definitely use the Small Business Saturday sales if you are looking for holiday gifts or for something interesting for yourself to read (or an extra copy to lend to friends!)
IN ADDITION (History of the World special!):
Patrick has set up a special “free shipping” offer for THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD BEGINS IN ICE trade paperback, domestic USA only (my apologies to my wonderful international readers). What this means is he is waiving the normal $5.38 Media Mail cost.
https://fairwoodpress.com/store/p174/THE__HISTORY__OF_THE__WORLD__BEGINS__IN_ICE_-_copy.html#/The trade paperback of the collection will be on sale for this limited time at $19.00. Order one (or more!) copies, and at checkout you’ll get the sale price. Look for "Add a coupon code" on the page. The code is ELLIOTT24.
The savings won't show until you get to shipping, when it'll add the Media Mail option as free.
One coupon per customer (as in, you can’t double up the site-wide sale coupon with the Elliott free shipping coupon) but free shipping is good for as many copies of the collection as you want to shovel into your cart!
Patrick notes: “As it turns out, I'm also doing a site-wide 25% off sale for the holidays and posting about that. But ... they'd still get a better deal with the free shipping code, an extra $1.50 beyond the 25% off one.”
Theoretically, international readers can get the site-wide discount applied but would have to pay for international shipping from the USA, which, as we know, has risen to outrageous amounts over the last eight years, which I am very sorry about because it feels ridiculous to me. I’m old enough to remember when international postage from the USA was higher than domestic but not impossibly high. Yet here we are.
IMPORTANT NOTE: For those waiting on the Deluxe Hardcover Edition of THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD BEGINS IN ICE, this is the latest news from Patrick:
NOTE FOR LIMITED HARDCOVER PURCHASERS: THIS IS STILL AT THE PRINTER. THE BOOKS SHIP TO FAIRWOOD ON DEC 6, AND WE HOPE TO HAVE THEM TO YOU BEFORE CHRISTMAS. SORRY FOR THE DELAY.
Thank you for your patience.

OTHER HOLIDAY BOOKS:
If anyone wants a signed copy of one of my books, from the stock I have at my house, you can write to me separately. Answer this email, for example, or at ke@imakeupworlds.com to ask about availability.
What do I have?
- Some copies of both the US and UK versions of Unconquerable Sun and Furious Heaven.
- Plenty of copies of books 2 and 3 of the Spiritwalker Trilogy and of Court of Fives, as well as two complete sets of the Spiritwalker Trilogy (the sets include books of different sizes).
- A couple of trade paperbacks of Black Wolves, which is now out of print and soon to be unavailable in a print edition (except used).
- A half dozen copies of my short fiction collection The Very Best of Kate Elliott
- A couple of random volumes of both the UK and US Crown of Stars, mostly book 5, 6, or 7.
These are all new books, the remains of my author copies, so I will ask cover price (or a discount if there is any minor page staining, which a few of the older books have), as well as the media mail shipping cost (or priority if that is your preference).
I am always glad to empty my shelves of stored books, so if you are interested, let me know. I used to have a “bookstore” that could be accessed via my Wordpress blog but closed it down because it had gotten too unwieldy to update shipping prices, and I would rather spend my time writing than wrestling with difficult to deal with software updates.
Again, you can reply to this email, or email me at ke@imakeupworlds.com
And, again, don’t forget Fairwood Press.
As for the rest, there will be more news forthcoming in the next two months, including updates on Black Wolves and additional pre-order information for The Witch Roads duology, as well as my plans for my Patreon in 2025. In 2024 I used Patreon to (among other things) post a series of 24 essays about worldbuilding (essay 24 as well as a bonus essay are coming in December). 2025 will switch things up a bit.
Best wishes to us all in a complicated season, says Finn.
As always, I could not do this without you. Thank you.
Kate Elliott
