Did I Mention Mountains?
A Goodreads Giveaway, news, and two photos
Giveaway!
Five (5) copies of the hardcover of THE KEEPER’S SIX are up for grabs on Goodreads. You can enter through 12/10 (December 10, 2023).
Writing News:
I have finished complete drafts of the final two stories (both novelettes) that will be available in THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD BEGINS IN ICE: Stories and Essays From the World of Cold Magic. These two stories, “The River-born Child” and “Finding the Doctor” (title subject to change), will be original to the collection. They constitute the first story in the collection, which is arranged chronologically, and the second to last story in the collection. Mysterious!
The Cold Magic Collection (as I am calling it for short) will be available next summer from Fairwood Press. You will be first to know when pre-orders are available, and whether a deluxe edition with extras is being published as well as the trade paperback and ebook editions.
Audio!
If you listen to audiobooks, check out the Tantor Media web page for my books, which lists everything now available. The entire Crown of Stars series is complete in audio. The first three Jaran novels are available with THE LAW OF BECOMING coming in December. Both SPIRIT GATE and SHADOW GATE are available, with TRAITORS’ GATE coming early next year.
As I’ve said before, I honestly never thought these three series would get audio versions, and I’m ecstatic that they have, and especially with such excellent voice narration.
As a reminder, the Cold Magic (Spiritwalker) series, the Court of Fives trilogy, the first two Sun books (UNCONQUERABLE SUN and FURIOUS HEAVEN), BLACK WOLVES, and a combo unit of THE KEEPER’S SIX and SERVANT MAGE are all also available in audio format, although each with different publishers.
As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, and maybe here, and am recording in more detail on my Patreon, I went to Central Asia in September on a long-hoped-for trip to see some small portion of the Silk Road and the great central regions where so much travel, trade, war, and contact between peoples and civilizations has played out for thousands of years.
Here’s a photo from Kyrgyzstan, an astoundingly beautiful country of mountains, high plateau, shepherds, complicated democracy, one of the last surviving felting traditions, many flocks, lots of coffee shops in its capital of Bishkek, and did I mention mountains? Specifically, in the region we visited, the fabled Tien Shan, the Celestial Mountains, which run all the way deep into China.
As for Finn, here he is lounging with me, far less interested in the television show I am watching (likely Great British Bake Off Season 11) than I am.
That look says: Why did you stop petting me???
As always, I could not do this without you. Thank you.
